Get into hot water without leaving the house

Safe running water on demand is one of the crowning achievements of the developed world. It goes without saying that without indoor plumbing, our daily lives would be much more complicated. We use it without a second thought (except when the bill comes), and enjoy the benefits of having the choice between hot and cold by easily directing the handle of the faucet one way or the other. But when it comes to hot water, sometimes hot simply isn't hot enough.

The Saeco (50 oz.) Electric Water Kettle utilizes another hallmark of modern life--electricity--to heat water up to the desired temperature. Turn on the faucet, fill up the reservoir, and plug it into the wall. The kettle has three preset warming temperatures from 100 degrees F to 200 degrees F, and can hold heated water at the preferred temperature for up to 2 hours.

The carafe comes complete with its own mood lighting; it has a multicolored backlight that indicates the temperature range from low, medium, and high. The kettle sets on a 360-degree rotational base, allowing for easy access for both righties and lefties. An easy-to-read display panel integrated directly on the handle completes the modern appeal of this kettle. All this without even a cold trip outside to the water pump.

It slices! It dices! It pulverizes! It's the greatest invention in the history of home cooking ... until you realize it's a bear to clean and takes up a larger percentage of counter space-to-time used than anything else in your kitchen.

Sometimes when standing in a store, it's hard to figure out exactly what will make your culinary life easier, and what will just end up collecting dust in the basement. Because, after all, someone's fabulous, handy-dandy juicer is someone else's eBay cash cow.

And even the experts aren't immune.

"I have a house full of things like that - that my husband just has to have," says Ginny Weygint, a sales associate in the Home Shop at Weaver's Department Store, 901 Mass., laughing. "'Oh, I saw it on TV today!' ... oh dear."

To figure out what's worth adding to your kitchen we hit up both experts like Weygint and home cooks for their top products - you know, the ones worth wedging into your cabinets.

A Good Electric Water Kettle – Just A Fantasy? - GadgetKing.com

This isn’t a review, rather, a plea.  I’m losing grip on all hope, having searched for years, please can’t someone help me find an electric kettle that doesn’t taint your tea water with plastic, rubber, or silicone?  I don’t care if the entire outer part is made of plastic, just don’t want any in interior parts that touch water, including washers, hinge parts, spout parts, water-level indicators, filters, etc.

The thought of bit of BPA soup in every sip of tea, coffee, and instant soup is, well, a bit nasty.  Maybe I’m too vulnerable to alarmist mumbo jumbo, but all that toxic stuff leaching out of plastic… probably leaches out faster and in larger quantity if boiled in water, yes?  Plus most of the stuff nowadays comes from China, you can’t tell me that the good people running the factories on the other side of the Pacific prioritize things like public health and safety.

The Chef’s Choice Model #685 at http://www.russell-hobbs.com has the least amount of plastic of any kettle currently on the market. The vessel is stainless steel and the element is concealed. There is a tiny plastic vent at the top of a stainless steel tube inside the kettle. It is used to divert steam to the back up thermostat. It is not immersed in the water and I have not heard any complaints regarding tainted water. This kettle has been on the market for many years and is an extremely reliable appliance.

Check it out and see what you think. Perhaps the Cuisinart fits the bill. I read some of the reviews and it seems that it does…”no scary splashing”, under $100, stainless steel so no funny taste -Jim

1. The very first gift I want to mention is the KitchenAid 5 Speed Blenders with Polycarbonate Jars . I do not think there is a kitchen where a blender will not be welcome. You can do so much more with your KitchenAid 5 Speed Blenders with Polycarbonate Jars than only make smoothies and once you start using it, you think of more and more dishes you can use it for. So, as a gift you cannot go wrong with a KitchenAid 5 Speed Blenders with Polycarbonate Jars. 2. The second gift is only for those that enjoy entertaining or that likes to cook up a storm and freeze! I know many people who do that and for such a cook a Cuisinart Classic Stockpot is just the gift. It is big enough to cook a party amount of pasta and you can also cook a lot of stock and freeze it in smaller portions. For a real lover of the art of cooking, using "real" stock is very important so the Cuisinart Classic Stockpot will make an ideal gift. 3. When we get to the third gift I'm thinking of, you may think it does not belong here, but bear with me and you will see what I mean. The gift is one of the Bodum Mini Ibis Electric Water Kettles . Yes, a kettle! When you are cooking, you very often need only a little hot water for a dish and it is really uneconomical to get a burner started and put the kettle on for only a little hot water. So, the cook can quickly boil a small amount of water in the Bodum Mini Ibis Electric Water Kettles. We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website.
