Getting the green light
25.01.10
After years of petitions and phone calls to lawmakers, residents of a North Peoria street are finally getting their wish of a traffic light fulfilled.
Many residents of the Picture Ridge Road subdivision have been yearning for a light at the intersection of Picture Ridge, Inverness Street and Knoxville Avenue since before an Avanti's restaurant was built there about three years ago.
So state Sen. Dale Risinger, R-Peoria, and Rep. David Leitch, R-Peoria, lobbied for $5 million in the state's recent capital bill for the light.
"We've been working to get that light for a long time," Leitch said. "So, it's about time."
But don't start looking for a traffic light to sprout up just yet. There are still a number of steps that need to be taken before construction begins, and those steps will likely take a few years to be completed.
First, the state needs to sell the bonds to pay for the bill. Next, there needs to be a traffic study and engineering work of the intersection.
