The slowdown in the building design industry turned into a plus for hungry residents this month when designer Dan Price found himself with extra time while on temporary leave from Underwood Associates Architecture.
“I check in every day and still have my office there, but work is too slow and they don’t need their chief designer right now,” he said.
Instead, he is pursuing his cooking hobby, concentrating on food creations.
Price had volunteered his help in the kitchen many nights and weekends since Jenny McLemore and Carolyn Bild opened The Daily Brew near Priceville a couple of years ago. The menu includes soups and sandwiches, as well as coffee, gelato and desserts.
He decided to use his extra free time while laid off this winter to spice up the menu at the new Daily Brew location on Market Street by the river, where Market Street Café formerly operated.
He’s a consultant who works for soup, Price said, rather than an employee of the coffee shop.
