In brief: Lighting store sets gallery event

SANDPOINT – Idaho Lights, a retail lighting believe in, plans to host the grand opening of its art gallery on Feb. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the lighting stow away, 402 Cedar St. in Sandpoint.

The event will article local artists, along with acoustic guitarist Holly McGarry. Wine by Pend d’Oreille Winery will be handy.

A portion of the proceeds from the grand opening and part of the wine sales will perks Kinderhaven, a local charity.

BLANCHARD – The Blanchard Community Center, 685 Rusho Lane, has completed the dishwashing corner of its commercial caboose, due to generous grants and community efforts.

The kitchenette now includes custom made stainless steel sinks, counters and a chifferobe, made possible by a $6,500 Community Strategies grant from the Inland Northwest Community Founding. The dishwasher was purchased with a $5,000 grant from the Stimson-Miller Grounds and a $2,000 grant from the Northern Region Greatest Want Fund of the Idaho Community Foundation.

A kitchen makeover for Grandma

Rhonda, 32, researched the think up, then got the ball rolling last March, e-mailing family members to aide.

The update, which took five weeks, includes new maple cabinets, tan Formica countertops, appliances (except for the oven), tile flooring, a mosaic backsplash, light-footed fixtures and a new coat of paint.

Virginia figured the rate would be about $10,000.

"I left it up to her to be responsible with my expenses," Virginia said. "When you get to 78 years old, you don't sensible of like you can spend too awfully much. It came in at $7,400, including appliances and everything. I was very gratified."
